Things are cool, new business models

image

Dedicated to Jarkendia , it seems that he liked the previous

:-) The other day we talked about new genres (or not so new) popularized suddenly, and featuring by hundreds of mini-games on mobile devices. There is an interesting effect that is occurring in the model business behind these mini-games. And I see it as an entirely new business model.

The current model of video games and their problems
Create a video game is a huge undertaking. Large teams that invest time and money, resulting in a high risk. Then the game goes on sale, and of course is very expensive, or pays off in the first two or three months, or fire everyone and close the study of development. Even if the game is a bestseller and sweeps the market total, it may lay off half of staff between project and project.

Companies try to increase the lifespan of the game with downloadable content and I guess that gives a certain result, but this does not seem to save the constant incertudumbre living in these companies.

The new notebooks with the gossip has another game to sell a different stream. Developers make their product and sell it cheap. Then they are perfectly capable of keeping the game at the cutting edge. How?, Because by putting improvements constantly.

They seem easy because handheld games are small and simple games.

If you bought the game for months, you have the free upgrade. If they bought it, now you have the original + updates for the same price.

It produces a double effect. On the one hand, developers are able to maintain in a single game a long term business. Smaller development teams working long term in a single project, maintaining a sales level of more or less constant. Or perhaps with ups and downs, but in the long term.

In addition, for customers who buy games, you always have the feeling that a purchase is going to report long-term fun. Yes, a little game that you end up in a few hours, but it sure will add missions and return to rock it, sure.

How Soon Will Syphillis Show Up On A Blood Test

video games on the new New Year's resolutions

New New Year's resolutions suck. Stink simply because they never met. Or almost never.

Eye, I am convinced that the new purposes suck, but only new . The purposes are simply great. I have a 7 for this year.

Regarding the new , is as always: one thinks of those things that does but would like to do. Then he makes a promise to himself that will make them. So suddenly. And with the Christmas euphoria goes and proclaims to the four winds.

But is that important things do not happen overnight, no major decisions are taken in the little bit of cava between the dessert and coffee.

decide things like 'quit' during New Year's Eve dinner only leads to a huge frutración day 2, just at the time when you buy snuff.

The problem is always the same: attacking the symptom not the cause. If there are things that do not normally do, that's because they're not on your list of priorities. If those things you usually hammered into the consciousness, not leaving you calm, it is because your list is wrong.

If the list of priorities in your life is wrong, it is useless Andira things end happily. Better than meditate quietly. Nothing to announce at the New Year feast. Meditate on this for several days, make a good plan, if only mentally. You have to rearrange the time, custom, routine. And that nose, you have to acostrumbrar mind the idea of change. If it is really important, give it the importance it has.

My New Year's resolutions are things I've been doing more or less sporadically, and now I intend to put more focus. Things had already begun to do, and I've seen it work, you go with me, and it's time to get serious. And of course they are not important things. The important things do not depend on the holiday calendar, of course not. Come on, you could call them for purposes such as giving a different name. Just

I'm reorganizing a bit high on my list. But we do that every day, right?

Women's Clinic Brampton

Things are cool: new game genres

2010 has been a very good year for the world of videogames. In addition to traditional platforms, PC and "console games", the speed of adoption of new devices being brutal. iPhone, iPad, Android and (hopefully) Windows Phone 7 are selling at breakneck speeds.

These devices have increasingly become perfect platforms for gaming. But traditional games, but slowly have appeared (or just becoming popular) new types of games.

Game developers seem to be realizing that porting games consoles 'big' as it only produces smelly titles. The FPSs suck, most car games at first or third person sucks, the analog sticks and buttons on touch screen emulated traditional stink, the movement for a 3D environment usually sucks, etc. The emergence of something new was simply a necessity.

And so have been a number of new genres of games perfectly adapted to the needs of such a device. In my opinion, the keys are

- Ease and accessibility , so anyone have fun from minute one, even people who are not fond of video games.
- Touch Interface Design from the beginning , fundamental, nothing to adapt other games badly.
- Quick Gameplay , allowing games to one minute. You know, play a game on the bus queue, in the bathroom, etc..
- replay value (or whatever). By an average of 2 €, none of these games have hours and hours of different content. It is essential that invite repeated game, because almost all games are basically a repetition of the previous.

There are a few of these genres that I like:

Runners A runner is a game where all you have to do is run in one direction. And over the doll of the day usually runs by himself. The major complication is that there may have to jump or shoot. Examples

great: the advancing rapidly Solipskier (Free PC via browser), which controls a skier to the rhythm of heavy metal. As great as a simpleton, speed is addictive.
Monster Dash, where you just have to jump and shoot at monsters of all kinds. When you are killed you realize how silly it is to this game, but you can not but start giving again.
Cannabalt , I recognize that I have not played, but everyone says it is the bomb. That may be, I guess. Mirror's Edge
for IOS, the largest and most serious runner I've seen, but in the background is not only a runner over a little more elaborate graphically.

Great Tower Defense genre created (I think) for a Flash game called Desktop Defense . Ill go first, and have to get to the other. Our only role is to trigger towers. The difficulty is coordination between enemy type vs. type of tower, and money management / towers to buy and multiple routes (if preset) can serguir enemies. Besides this, there is little variation. Examples

thousands, as the great Defense Grid of 360, or IOS iBomber , sublime, military-style, with tanks and aircraft Galacic Alliance and Guns'N'Glory of west half of joke.
And of course the great Plants vs. Zombies , although it labeled as strategy, there is a Tower Defense a little more original in their approach.

fast real-time strategy

Lo 'fast', I have given, do not really think there's name for it. It is a strategy type games where you just have to move troops from bases other, predefined on the map. The bases can be yours or the enemy, in which case no 'fight'. The two games I've seen of this kind, the great Civilization Wars for IOS and another tank about the same but I do not remember his name, have a mechanism in which not even have to choose the number of units move: always go half the home base. Civilization Wars is amazing, you have to try the Lite version to get an idea of how many minutes it will take to buy the full version.

physical Games

There is little to say no been said already Angry Birds: are games where you have to deal with basic physics, usually trajectories (angles and force, gravity, inertia). Angry Birds Shot Toy (like birds dolls pissed but, ahem, LEGO), Cut The Rope , World Of Goo and hundreds of others.

Here I outline a number to be a bit special: Master Of Alchemy , where in addition to the basic physics of gravity and mass play must be an alchemist and transform solids, liquids and gases. Not particularly funny, but it is very, very curious.
The other highlight is Implode XL The typical game (yes, there are many peers) to operate buildings and structures, but instead of getting lost with colorful graphics, is super simple graphics at the same time effective, and has a very nice level editor, with the possibility of sharing and download dozens of user-made levels. Fruit Ninja
, the silly and addictive game I've played, ever. 573 points in Arcade mode, beat that)
Osmos , a somewhat special example of how to make a masterpiece of physics, but using inertia and attraction rather than momentum and gravity. Macrocosm and microcosm are mixed in superb form. Osmos PC is in addition to IOS.

Shooting Games

simpletons of top-down perspective

This genre is not new, but say that with the advent of gaming devices that support simpletons. Apart from the traditional to other platforms (I prefer the Alien Breed the 360, bigger and better game than it seems at first sight), we live an explosion of this type jueguecillos iOS, each one more stupid and simple. I'll take Minigore and Age Of Zombies . Friendly and fun, but yes, after 60 seconds from the start since you say you've seen everything that these games have to offer ...

Incidentally, in Age Of Zombies when kill you, says "EPIC FAIL!"

Finally, there are many more, and one could write books on the subject. So much that I wanted to put me. There are a few snapshots:

Solipskier, runner-paced heavy metal.

Civilization Wars, RTS, but the simple

Osmos, a visual and sonic freak

Cut The Rope, the the hand of the great developers Angry Birds

Note: is shown, BlogPress iPad, the software I used to write and publish this post, also sucks a bit. There is no way to format as God intended ...
